Research Chemist

Plan, develop and routinely perform various analytical methods and studies in support of the development of sustainable, biorational products in agriculture, public health and forest health.  Identify and quantify active ingredients and impurities in various samples for new products and improvements to current products.  Additionally, plan and execute synthesis of organic compounds as needed.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Develop and perform both precise / accurate and high throughput analytical methods for active ingredients and impurities on instruments such as HPLC-UV, LC-MS and LC-MS/MS, including preparation of various samples from matrices such as fermentation broths, recovery fractions, formulations, and plant tissues
• Conduct research analyses and report results for various requests from internal customers such as manufacturing, regulatory, and marketing
• Troubleshoot assays and analytical methodology as needed
• Plan and carry out synthesis of organic compounds, including synthetic route identification and performing chemical reactions on laboratory and pilot scale
• Maintain and archive laboratory documents including electronic notebooks and databases
• Consistently observe safe laboratory practices and adhere to all company safety policies. Maintain the laboratory in all aspects
• Work independently and with interdisciplinary research teams while maintaining a positive and collaborative environment

Technical Qualifications:

• M.S. in analytical or organic chemistry with a minimum 2 years of experience or BS in organic or analytical chemistry with a minimum of 5 years of experience
• Track record of performing analytical assays on HPLC, LC-MS and LC-MS/MS instruments, including experience in sample preparation and analytical method development
• Hands-on experience in maintenance and troubleshooting of HPLC and MS equipment
• Experience in performing multi-step organic synthesis, including proficiency in compound purification
• Work experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical or agrochemical field preferred
