Research and Development Chef

The R&D Chef will assist the R&D team with product development tasks, will work in conjunction with R&D Manager and with vendor-partners to create new products.  The R&D Chef will demonstrate their knowledge of meat science and culinary understanding of products as it pertains to research, development, and execution of any and all company items.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Key Requirements:

  • Developing concepts and prototypes for new or modified products
  • Assisting in the coordination of production line runs
  • Conducting product evaluation and testing
  • Collaborate with R&D team members to evaluate impact of new and existing ingredients, products, or processes
  • Design and execute experiments, with support of R&D team, based on project objectives
  • Collect, record, and analyze data
  • Interpret and translate results into possible solutions
  • Assist in the coordinating projects and opportunities to ensure work is properly organized, scheduled, and completed on time
  • Participate in industry technical discussions to keep informed on upcoming technologies

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

  • 1-4 years food industry research or culinary experience and practical application of culinary methods
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Culinary, or similarly related technical field preferred
  • Ability to effectively present information to groups and respond to questions from other managers
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and able to manage multiple R&D projects concurrently
  • Shows a high degree of proactive thinking
  • Strong communication skills with a focus on building collaborative relationships
  • Great communicator, and likes to lead and work in a team environment
  • Likes to be an ambassador/advocate of the company and represent with pride at trade-shows, with customers and community
  • Enthusiasm to drive research and results in the company
  • Desire to learn about ingredient functionality to enable product quality improvement and new product development
  • Excellent communication skills and collaborative mindset
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment, effectively manage workload to meet deadlines, while ensuing a high standard of quality
  • Self-starter who is extremely result and detail-oriented, creative problem-solving abilities
