Research and Development Chemist
Small family-owned company looking for a local masters/PhD chemist with experience in formulation. An excellent opportunity to develop technology and scale it up!
The duties and responsibilities of the Research and Development Chemist will include:
- Formulate new coating product prototypes and evaluate them for chemical and physical properties, performance, and stability
- Improve current formulations of products when needed
- Research product formulations and properties of raw materials
- Prepare and provide samples for customer field testing
- Establish product specifications and procedures as required for R&D projects
- Support scale-ups from prototype to commercial manufacture
- Obtain process technology and equipment information for production
- Obtain data and information required for regulatory submissions and patent applications
- Support on technical service for operations and consumer relations
- Conduct research and field evaluations on new products
- Provide technical and supervisory support within laboratory and other departments as required
- Coordinate research and development activities within all organizational departments
- Develop reports and documents detailing project processes, results, and conclusions
- Attend coatings focused conferences to stay up to date on technology in the field and to develop industry relationships. Less than 10% travel
- Maintain supplier relationships
- Adhere to all company safety guidelines and maintain a safe work environment

Job Requirements
Technical Requirements:
- BA or BS in science related field, preferably chemistry related major
- MS or PhD in chemistry related field preferred
- 2-3 years of experience performing formulation or R&D position
- Basic knowledge of formulation and experimental design
- Excellent organization and planning skills
- Ability to interface with different business units to satisfy customer requests
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records
- Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
- Proven problem-solving and decision-making abilities; ability to function independently with little supervision
