Safety Specialist

Primary job responsibilities of the EH&S Specialist are to assist the company in creating a safe working environment for all employees by maintaining comprehensive environmental, health and safety programs for the site and to ensure regulatory compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the establishment of a safety minded culture of continuous awareness, compliance and visibility throughout the site
  • Ensure that the workplace is in compliance with all applicable OSHA standards, rules and regulations in order to maintain safety
  • Conduct EH&S related training to site personnel
  • Implement site practices that prevent accidents and ensure compliance with OSHA standards
  • Implement corrective and preventative actions to ensure safety and health hazards are quickly corrected, eliminated or guarded
  • Perform and document workplace assessments, identify hazardous conditions and take corrective actions
  • Conduct new employee safety orientation training
  • Responsible for compliance to state and federal regulations particularly as they relate to hazardous waste, air emissions and other environmental regulations
  • Perform safety audits and assist in the collection of safety metrics
  • Ability to challenge personnel performing unsafe actions

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, BA/BS in environmental, science or engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in an EH&S role preferably in a manufacturing environment

Required Environmental Training

The following training must be successfully completed within six months of their employment or being assigned to this position.  Personnel are not allowed to work unsupervised until training has been successfully completed

  • Hazardous Waste Management – annually
  • Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (40 hour) – initially
  • Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (8-hour refresher) – annually
  • Hazard Communication – initially and when new hazards are introduced
  • USDOT Hazardous Materials Shipping – initially and every three years
  • Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure – annually
  • Respirator Protection – annually
  • Chemical Safety Preparedness – initially
  • Fire/Explosion/Communication – initially
  • Portable Fire Extinguisher Use – optional

Mathematical Skills

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, permutations, and statistical analysis.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis

Computer Skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.  Ability to create and utilize spreadsheets for data analysis


  • Must be a team player with good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and customers
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
