Sales Representative - Chemical Distributor

We are working with a top tier award winning North American Chemical Distributor to find their next outstanding Sales Representative.  This third-generation business, dedicated to exemplary leadership in chemical distribution and the widest selection of ingredients in the industry. From surfactants and silicones to personal care specialties and industrial chemicals, our client can supply just about any ingredient that is on the label of a box, bottle, or jar.  Established in the personal care market for over 40 years you will be selling to both new and existing accounts.  The role will be based out of Texas and support a multimillion-dollar 5 state territory.  The right individual will have a minimum of 3 years of direct sales in chemical raw ingredients to the personal care or surfactant market.  Surfactants, Amines, Antioxidants, Emulsifiers, Glycols, Skin Care, Texturizing Agents, Oleochemicals, or Waxes.   

MUST be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder with a valid Driver’s License with no suspensions.

Responsibilities

The Sales Representative is responsible for representing their assigned territory to obtain new customers and grow the existing customer base, with a focus on personal care and promoting the company in the industry. In this highly visible role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact and are expected to develop and maintain a plan for increasing sales and profits and growing business partnerships with suppliers and customers.

  • Communicate, liaise, and negotiate using appropriate methods to facilitate the development of profitable business and sustainable relationships.
  • Develop and maintain customer relationships through frequent contact and meetings and by providing them with purchase and sales reports.
  • Focus all efforts on providing exceptional customer experience, from closing the sale to following up with the customer and prospects.
  • Set goals and objectives and make planned, regular sales and development calls to key areas throughout the territory to familiarize existing and potential customers with distributed products.
  • Make cold calls to uncover new prospects and develop an extensive sales pipeline.
  • Daily visits with customers (In-Person or Virtual)
  • Write a minimum of 50 customer call reports per month.
  • Become fluent in all product offerings and be able to conduct consultative meetings with customers and prospects.
  • Increase top-line sales and profits by meeting or exceeding budgeted revenues and gross margins.
  • Perform business planning and budgeting for product lines.
  • Achieve agreed upon sales targets and outcomes.
  • Analyze the territory/market’s potential and track sales and status reports.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of the company’s products to advise and make suitable recommendations to current customers and prospects.
  • Provide purchasing data to appropriate management personnel in support of the Purchasing department for the establishment of inventory management standards.
  • Attend meetings, sales events, and training to keep abreast of the latest industry developments.

$100,000 - $125,000 + base salary and commission

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related science degree is preferred—a minimum of a business-related degree and an aptitude for the scientific field.
  • A minimum of five or more years of chemical industry sales experience and chemical distribution experience is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful and high-performance in sales of Personal Care, business solutions, or equivalent.
  • Advanced consultative expertise and business knowledge of supply-side logistics and associated costs.
  • Self-motivated and dedicated problem solver.
  • Strong interpersonal/communication skills are a requirement.
  • Proven ability to connect with people, manage processes efficiently, and prioritize without sacrificing the customer experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, applicable database systems, and vendor software programs.
  • Must be domiciled in the Southwest.
  • Availability to travel both locally and to out-of-state destinations on occasion.

  • Ability to verbally communicate both in person and via telephone.
  • Ability to utilize various office equipment, including computer, telephone, and copy machine.
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 10 pounds.
