Sanitation Manager

The Sanitation Manager will have the following responsibilities:

  • Manages the Sanitation Department operations and personnel relative to sanitation, safety, documentation, and sanitation supplies inventory system
  • Manages department to ensure plant is run in a clean, safe and caring environment. Manages department to meet compliance goals with inspection and regulatory agencies
  • Manages crews in maintaining buildings and equipment to conform to company policy and government regulations; ensures that all equipment is thoroughly clean, safe and ready for production start-up
  • Plans and coordinates work with Production and Maintenance Department work schedules
  • Coordinates sanitation activities to ensure Master Sanitation Schedule is maintained and updated with frequency of tasks being completed and documented on time
  • Provides for documentation of processes of the sanitation department including MCS, SSOP’s, Training records and regulatory programs
  • Coordinates chemical control program as it relates to sanitation supplies and chemicals. Maintains Sanitation Department MSDS program for all required documentation
  • Provides training and orientation to all sanitation employees on safety, food safety and regulatory requirements
  • Recommends termination of trial workers; trains, evaluates and counsels department personnel; ensures standards of behavior and disciplinary procedures are applied consistently
  • Participates in plant inspections and self-audits to identify issues regarding food safety and safety. Coordinates activities for corrective action on all inspections and audits
  • Inspects plant for infestation, contamination and compliance with master cleaning schedules; critiques housekeeping and employee practices relative to sanitation requirements
  • Initiates requests to Maintenance Department for repairs and/or work orders to maintain sanitation equipment
  • Maintains effective Sanitation spare parts and inventory systems to ensure production continuity and control cost; meets with suppliers to consult on equipment; coordinates with Purchasing to ensure availability of materials on best cost basis; maintains competitive bid file on all materials
  • Ensures all safety requirements are met and sanitation employees maintain a safe work environment
  • Plans for and participates in all government and private sanitation and food safety inspections
  • Develops annual budgets for department inspectors
  • Provide leadership and direction to subordinates; completes performance and personal development evaluations; reviews and recommends training and development requirements and programs; conducts information sessions with staff
  • Responsible for promoting food safety and employee safety throughout the organization

  • Bachelor’s degree in food related field or equivalent experience
  • Five to six years prior related experience in a food processing company
  • Five+ years in food sanitation
  • Supervisory experience
