Senior Chemist – Consumer & Industrial Applications

The role is for a Consumer and Industrial (C&I) Sr. Chemist within the Sales and Technical Support Group.  The role will be filled by an experienced formulation chemist, chemical engineer, or person with a degree in a closely related technical field.  You will provide customer and C&I applications R&D support for various projects and tasks including formulation, customer complaints and product performance investigation, prototype development and demonstration samples, and training of the Sales and Technical Service team.  The working environment stimulates creativity, encourages personal development and risk-taking.  The atmosphere is very open and collaborative in nature.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on, laboratory-based position
  • Develops and applies knowledge used to implement and/or improve tools, techniques and work processes
  • Able to research and develop formulations in various C&I areas to highlight the benefits of our biogums
  • Develop and provide training on company hydrocolloids to Sales and Technical Service teams
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (5-10% of time) including possible overseas trips to Europe and Asia

  • A Master’s degree in Chemistry or a related field with a minimum of 2-3 years of related industry experience in applications that use hydrocolloids is preferred OR Bachelor’s level degree in chemistry or a closely related technical field with 3-5 years of experience with a variety of Consumer & Industrial applications that use hydrocolloids similar to those produced by company will be considered
  • Individual contributor with experience in the area of hydrocolloids and C&I applications
  • They are a small lab, so candidate must be hands-on and able to not mind setting up the lab equipment. No two days will be the same.  Someone currently doing repetitive testing is probably not the right person
  • Demonstrated experience with surfactants and emulsion systems
  • Experience with water-based polymers and how they are used to stabilize consumer products
  • Will consider Personal Care as long as candidate is not solely focused in any one area, and will look at someone from other surfactant-based chemistries like detergents, cleaners, HI&I, oilfield, etc. as long as it is not synthetic polymers
  • Experienced in the use of rheometers and knowledge of common rheological properties
  • Experienced with variety of lab instrumentation
  • Competently proposes, develops and validates new test methods
  • Comfortable with being hands-on
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
