Senior Coatings Chemist
Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops new and modifies existing UV/LED-cure ink and coating formulas using appropriate experimental design to meet customer requirements for the printing market.
- Conducts ink and coatings-related tests and experiments in a laboratory environment using both standard and novel test procedures.
- Accurately interprets data and results, documents conclusions within project management database, and communicates conclusions and direction to internal functional partners and external customers.
- Works closely with existing and new raw material suppliers to evaluate new and/or replacement materials for use in ink and coating product formulations.
- Provides scale-up and support for the ink product formulas with manufacturing and Quality Control including the establishment of testing requirements, specifications, and troubleshooting assistance.
- Provides product and process recommendations as required based on requests for information from customers and other internal functions such as Sales.
- Provides technical information and product guidance in support of the creation of product Safety Data Sheets and Technical Data Sheets.
- Supports business revenue growth through product innovation which includes literature surveys, industry partner engagement, customer engagement, and experimentation in the lab. Some occasional travel will be required.
- Prepares prints of inks and coatings or other marketing-related exhibits for internal and customer use.
- Aligns laboratory and product formulation support activities within the framework of the ISO-9001 Quality Management System.
- Provides mentoring and direction to less-experienced R&D and Regulatory staff members.
- Leads cross-functional project teams related to product changes, product development, and/or process modification.
- Monitors, assigns, and takes action on incoming technical project requests within eChempax, email, and/or other communication routes.
- Creates new and directs existing R&D projects based on business priorities for the market segment supported. Provides direction on project experimental design to other members of the R&D segment team.

Job Requirements
- BS degree in Chemistry, or related science, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in UV-cure ink, UV-cure coatings, and/or other liquid coating chemistry and formulation.
- Experience formulating lithographic offset UV-cure paste ink is a strong plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey technical data, conclusions, and product recommendations.
- Ability to travel to customer and/or industry partner locations 5-10% of the time.
- Self-starter. Able to meet goals, objectives, and deadlines in a fast-paced and customer centric environment.
- Strong math, time-management, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Proficient with MS Office.
