Senior Development Chemist / Development Chemist (x2)

The Senior Development Chemist / Development Chemist will have the following responsibilities:

  • Plan, conduct experimental work and analyze experimental results effectively to develop new powder coating platform technologies and products
  • Work closely with R&D, regional labs and global product management to understand customer and market needs, mega trends, and competitive landscape. Use these understandings to propose new platform projects to support organic growth.  Also provide continued support in defining, scoping and validating platform projects
  • Lead technology platform teams, set milestones and deliver results against aggressive timelines. Coordinate related activities including synthesis, formulation, processing and application
  • Maintain project information up to date in Compass and ensure timelines are realistic and adhered to
  • Maintain and grow an understanding of powder coating processes, including details of key customer lines. Use the information of develop robust powder coating platforms and increase the speed and success rate of product launches
  • Develop new methods to simulate customer line conditions, accelerate the assessment of new powder coatings technologies
  • Build and maintain a network with commercial and technical teams in all regions to communicate progress on projects and understand future needs. Drive technology transfer to accelerate localization and customization in all regions
  • Maintain and communicate results through written and verbal summaries, coatings reports, and gate review updates
  • Work safely, follow all lab procedures and contribute to the maintenance of high safety standards
  • Train new associates in daily activities. May provide supervision for other associates

  • PhD with 3+, or MS with 7+, or BS with 10+ years of relevant industrial experience in a technical field. Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer/Material Science, Coatings Science, or an equivalent scientific degree is required
  • Prior experience with powder coatings is highly desired, but not required
  • Demonstrated history of innovative thinking, generating and presenting new concepts
  • Ability to manage complex technical projects with multiple stakeholders. Prior experience with project management tools and stage gate process is a plus
  • Familiar with experimental design (DOE), prior training with sigma logic (or DfSS) is a plus
  • Team Player. Most important personality characteristic.  This is a newly created team that will develop new platform technology together
  • Global Perspective. Has to be willing to engage with global teams and listen to their needs
  • Results Oriented. Candidates need to have a track record of innovation and success
  • Learning Agility. Even candidates with previous powder experience need to be fast learners and open to new ideas and concepts
  • Innovative/Technically Competent. Candidates approach to problem solving should be scientific and demonstrable
