Senior Portfolio Manager (TAG)

A cross-functional partner for the PMO and USA company businesses to drive the I&R Portfolio to deliver the Business I&R Objectives.  Achieved by bringing transparency on I&R Portfolio status, gaps and optimization options.  Additional potential to manage the Optimization Portfolio.  No direct reports but a high level of influence with company stakeholders.


I&R Objectives

  • Partner with the PMO Managers and USA company Divisions to understand the company Divisions I&R Portfolio
  • Reconcile strategic business plan targets (revenue, profit) with current initiative pipeline, identify and communicate gaps along with gap-closing proposals

I&R Resources

  • Propose I&R Resource Envelopes to deliver I&R Objectives and ensure that allocated resources are balanced against the confirmed Envelopes
  • Highlight additional resources required to optimize the I&R Portfolio or support new projects
  • Facilitate choice, trade-offs, prioritization of projects and guides allocation of available resources

I&R Project Evaluation & Prioritization

  • Confirm evaluation and prioritization criteria with the Leadership team
  • Evaluate new and existing projects (in context of the I&R Portfolio) from a neutral standpoint, calibrating the assessment with Project and Leadership Teams

I&R Portfolio Governance

  • Orchestrate review meetings on a relevant cycle for the I&R Portfolio
  • Objectively analyses the I&R Portfolio and highlights gaps versus I&R Objectives and targets
  • Proactively provides solutions to optimize the I&R Portfolio and guides Leadership Teams decisions
  • Effectively Communicate decisions and post-evaluation learnings of the I&R Portfolio to the relevant Leadership Teams
  • Provide status to the Leadership Team on Programs if they exist in the I&R Portfolio
  • Provide regular transparency on the I&R Portfolio to the Leadership Teams
  • Drive continuous improvement in portfolio reporting (including technology platforms)

Project or Program Management

Apply project management principles to ensure the on-time launch and execution of complex projects (i.e. above market programs, breakthrough innovation, capital investment).  Activities include:

  • Leading the alignment of the strategy and approach for initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, and closing the project with key stakeholders
  • Leading the definition and communication of project scope, objectives and expectations
  • Identifying project resource requirements and escalating resource constraints
  • Building and managing the project schedule, defining the critical path, tracking activities to ensure functional team members are meeting agreed upon deadlines, generating and communicating status reports, and escalating critical issues
  • Preventive management of roadblocks and generation of risk mitigation plans
  • Providing transparency and communication on project status and risks to cross functional team members, Project Management Lead and Business Leadership Team

Process Management:

  • Responsible for the application, execution, and continuous improvement of company’s USA’s I&R processes

Job Requirements


  • Minimum 10 years of cross-functional team experience, preferably at CPG. Applicable backgrounds including but not limited to Strategy, Marketing, Research & Development and Finance
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Portfolio Manager
  • Project Management experience preferred
  • Prior CPG experience preferred
  • Minimum BA/BS required
  • Portfolio Management Certification preferred
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) Certification preferred
  • Brilliant at the basics (time management, results focus, communication skills, organization skills)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and teams concurrently is necessary
  • Effectively collaborates and influences people at all levels in the organization through strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage conflict and drive resolution
  • Flexibility and adaptability to perform in a high-volume, fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Ability to drive for results through effective leadership and coaching skills
  • Quick sifting abilities (focuses project team and stakeholders on the top priorities – can focus on high level and detail level, knowing which is appropriate)
  • Ability to analyze data, identify links between facts, ideas and situations that have no obvious connection
  • Ability to self-direct and manage ambiguity
  • Lead by example to enable quicker decisions, energizing others by clarifying purpose / why, and stop projects without escalation
