Senior Scientist / Applications and Product Development

The Senior Scientist is expected to have basic product development experience for retail or foodservice products, preference for candidates with experience in formulating bakery products, including cookies, crackers, breads, muffins and cakes; as well as some plant trial experience in the manufacture of these products 

  • The areas of interest need to include:
    • Ingredients: common ingredients used to formulate bakery products
    • Product Development: ability to develop new product formulas to meet consumer, customer, shelf-life and cost requirements
    • Flavor Application Manufacturing Scale-Up: bench to pilot plant and pilot plant to commercialization experience
  • The individual must have a willingness and ability to learn new skills from a supervisor, sense of urgency, accepting of change, communication, flexibility, teamwork, problem solving, dependability, curiosity, integrity, and a commitment to safety
  • Responsible for executing projects as assigned keeping the segment strategy in the forefront
  • Responsible for building additional expertise in Bakery Segment under the direction of a supervisor
  • Responsible for leading turnkey product development projects or supporting projects as assigned
  • Responsible for running experiments as assigned

Requirements:

  • Minimum BS (Food Science, Culinology or related field) with 5+ years of Product Development experience
  • The position will require some travel to customers or contract manufacturers
  • Prior experience in bakery product development at a CPG, Private Label or Contract Manufacturer Company is required
  • A successful candidate will need to have some presentation skills and the ability to rapidly develop a relationship with internal and external customers
  • Some experience with regulatory and labeling is desirable
