Sensory Scientist

We are looking for a Sensory Scientist to serve as subject matter expert, that will have a team of Sensory technologists supporting them.
The Sensory Scientist serves as a subject matter expert for Quality and Manufacturing in sensory. This role will strengthen ‘gold standards’ for products, design and provide guidance on internal sensory panels, lead auditing programs, conduct sensory data analysis and provide recommendations needed for product releases. This person will be responsible for coordinating sensory related activities to support operations at the plant to ensure that the product produced conforms to required company sensory quality standards.
Detailed Responsibilities / Duties:
- Leads cuttings (product tasting) with product team to assist in guiding of finished product and goods process
- Train sensory panelists and gather data to provide recommendations that are actionable and contributing to decision making
- Daily participation in the evaluation of products, and raw materials
- Participate as a team member on cross-functional teams to keep projects advancing against rigorous timelines
- Generate statistical sensory reports for existing products, supporting shelf-life validation studies and correlation studies, determining and analyzing results critical to quality sensory characteristics for company products
- Conduct raw material organoleptic review and release prior to production
- Support the execution and analysis of the present sensory findings from a variety of quantitative and qualitative methods, while also leveraging past learnings to continuously improve the sensory testing process
- Review all in-house sensory test methods and optimize them for continuous improvements
- Collaborate with Corporate Sensory R&D and regional Quality sites to ensure alignment of test methods and processes to deliver excellence in sensory quality and best practices
- Participates in the development or sensory science tools, methods and processes
- Continuously develop competencies in sensory evaluation and contribute in other areas as assigned such as sourcing, quality, regulatory, and supply chain
- Leverage external partners (suppliers, flavor houses, etc.) in the areas of sensory testing and consumer flavor trends

Required Qualifications:
Skills:
- Solid English communication skills, both written and verbal ability to collaborate, persuade and negotiate effectively with cross functional teams
- Strong statistical analysis, interpretation and reporting skills
- Ability to predict and solve problems in a practical, timely and collaborative manner
- Ability to assess products with limited technical guidance and supervision
- Ability to generate and analyze data to drive correct decision making
- History of achieving positive results
- Ability to identify, document and validate the appropriate development direction and unit processes to solve problems with limited to the supervision
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively while managing resources to ensure positive outcomes
- Has capacity to interact effectively at all levels of organization with sensitivity to diversity
- Highly motivated individual with a passion for Data Management and Document Control
- Strong analytical skills and use of sensory quality tools
- Ability to travel up to 10%
Experience:
- 5 years of experience in Sensory as a Scientist or similar role
- Demonstrated sensory skills in all aspects of sensory evaluation, including Descriptive, Discrimination, and hedonic testing methods, product evaluation and statistics
- Experience interpreting data collected through sensory evaluation and testing
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Food Science / related field
Preferred Qualifications:
- Sensory experience with high protein beverages, instant teas and/or a cross section of nutritional products
