Sr Product Development Engineer – Thermoforming

Job Description
Global packaging company is seeking an advanced thermoforming engineer for their growing team! Drive and contribute to programs, providing solutions valued by customers and driving profitable growth. Work may include research, applications development, materials enhancements, process improvement and/or cost-out initiatives.
Viewed as fully proficient to be able to carry out a full range of responsibilities across assigned areas. Able to operate across existing and adjacent technologies while contributing as applicable to new to market or company technologies. Recognized as “a person to ask” to troubleshoot more complicated challenges. Contributes to influencing decisions, sometimes outside of core area. Technical/product support across multiple products and/or processes – typically includes key customers.
- Leverage understanding of multiple customer needs and capabilities to rapidly design, develop and implement products and/or processes.
- Represent the company’s technical voice by leading technical discussions with customers on new developments.
- Stay apprised of externally relevant technology changes and trends that may impact the company.
- Drive critical to quality specifications.
- Leverage and teach additional problem-solving skills and methodologies. E.g., Technical Research, Technical Library, Networking.
- Drive programs in stage gate to support start-ups and launches.
- Plan, execute and analyze production trials with Design of Experiment, Lean, and statistical analysis methodology.
- Ensure proper documentation of work and contribute to knowledge library – do not reinvent what has been invented elsewhere.
- Protect Intellectual Property while meeting stakeholder needs with proper information sharing.
- Develop and train on standard procedures to advance company operation.
- Leverage and share foundational understandings of material / polymer properties and equipment capability in order to meet customer needs.
- Influence and use cross-functional connectivity of business processes to improve performance across the organization. Actively participate with a globally connected technical community for information sharing relevant to assigned area(s).
- Provide expertise and share knowledge in order to advance capability across the organization.
- Lead technical process developments and improvements in order to generate new technology and value to the company.
- Collaborate with areas such as Engineering, Operations and Quality to resolve technical challenges, supporting sustained solutions. This may include inputs on machine installations or upgrades and participating in new capital project teams.
- Generate new, workable ideas to contribute to filling the pipeline.
- Prepare, present and follow-up on research proposals

Job Requirements
- Undergraduate degree required (Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science preferred)
- 7+ year’s technical experience, preferably in a manufacturing R&D or Process role across multiple technical processes
- Demonstrated ability to leverage design choices positively impacting market position.
- Experience leading product and process development projects with demonstrated sustained results.
- Demonstration of synthesizing information across a range of inputs and applying to business results
- Demonstrated expertise in multiple technologies/processes leveraged to deliver value to the organization and business relationships.
- Demonstrated ability applying tools within Project Management, Design of Experience, Lean Principles and Statistical Analysis
- Ability to act as a group leader on specialized projects.
- Experience with key/national account customer relationship management – from a technical perspective as well as demonstrated ability to scale-up with a customer’s growth.
- Ability to have broad conceptual judgment for which there may be less to little precedence.
