Sr. Chemist

The Senior Chemist is an important member of the R&D department with responsibility for formulating chemistries and performing new product development, providing hands-on research and technical knowledge to develop new products through commercial launch, and support existing products to promote the growth of the division.

  • Understand internal manufacturing processes to produce quality product
  • Design and execute experiments to evaluate and optimize the performance attributes of assigned technologies
  • Develop an understanding of process capability, design selection criteria, and/or structure-property relationships for developed products
  • Execute various project activities to achieve development objectives in the framework of the organization product development process
  • Maintain proper documentation of technical and experimental activities in laboratory and machine trials
  • Collaborate with R&D staff cross-functionally to successfully overcome technical challenges in major projects and deliver business results for Specialty Films division
  • Conceptualize formulations to meet customer needs, test and evaluate chemistries against specifications. Troubleshoot development as necessary
  • Write and perform test protocols based on customer end usage
  • Develop specialty, multi-layer coatings whether solvent based, aqueous, hot melt, etc.
  • Manage multiple projects and/or large complex projects (over 1 year), from concept to commercialization. Visit customer sites and perform pilot runs.  Understand customer’s manufacturing process and/or end-product usage to achieve best quality
  • Actively research relevant intellectual property and support development of patentable inventions
  • Work and communicate effectively with cross functional teams to enable new product development project success
  • Oversee trials on production equipment

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum 5-7 years relevant industrial product development experience in bench level setting
  • Strong background in Chemistry, materials, polymers and adhesives
  • Ability to formulate a technical strategy to solve complex problems
  • Excellent skills in report writing and verbal presentation of technical data
  • Experience in operation of Analytical equipment like FTIR, Gas Chromatograph, etc.
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft applications
  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • Thin film coating chemistry formulation experience and fundamental knowledge of organic chemistry
  • Passion for learning about relevant technologies in coatings industry
  • Proactively develops professional growth through collaboration and mentoring relationships
  • Experience working with cross functional teams including marketing, sales, finance, and operations to deliver product development activity
  • Experience working in a structured product development methodology
  • Experience in packaging or adhesives industry a plus
