Sr. Dispersions Development Scientist

Have you developed pigment or nanomaterial dispersions for liquid coatings, inks, or other systems?  This fast-paced R&D team is looking for a talented Chemist to join the team.  High profile role in developing dispersions for customers in niche markets, coatings and inks.  Growing Company, State of the Art facilities and Labs!  Family Style company profile, excellent benefits, and RELOCATION assistance for a homeowner!

The Senior Scientist will be responsible for leading research and product development projects to identify, develop, and commercialize pigment dispersions and nanomaterials for liquid applications (Coatings, Inks, and Niches).  Works within the current Product Design and Development laboratory structure to develop new materials, methods, and applications.  Interfaces with internal and external technical resources and customers to track technical and market trends, to provide innovative solutions to meet customer’s current and future needs.

The Senior Scientist needs to have experience and deep technical knowledge of nanomaterials and their applications.  In addition, the ability to collaborate with subject matter experts from different fields to drive research and product development projects forward.  Provide technical support and coaching to other scientists in the evaluation of new and different materials and ideas.  Leads by example and effectively communicates technical information by means understandable to all levels of the organization are a must.

  • Initiate and lead new product technology platform development projects.
    • Formulate and execute innovation for new and existing products through fundamental lab studies, batch-scale process development and plant trials; interpret and communicate results to cross functional stake holders and prepare related reports
    • Perform laboratory work to progress growth projects following stage gate process framework
    • Generate and capture Intellectual Property (IP) 50%
  • Lead effort to develop new applications and to enhance laboratory research capabilities
    • Identify and develop new applications, test capabilities, procedures, and analysis methods related to Coatings, Inks and Niche
    • Develop structure-property relationships for different nanomaterial systems and capture impact on material processing 25%
  • Grow Product Development Pipeline
    • Work closely with PD&D Director, Principal Scientists, Sector Head and technical business development to identify new opportunities, generate insights, nurture ideas, and help build business cases. Identify, and execute product development tasks with cross-functional teams (Technical, Manufacturing, Sales, Marketing, etc.) and external customers to drive products through stage-gate process 15%
  • Marketing
    • Support developing product positioning and value communication for training, selling tools, and marketing content 10%

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree in Polymer, Chemistry, Materials Science, Carbon Science or Chemical Engineering
  • PhD with 5 or more years of experience or a Master’s degree with 7 or more years of experience or a Bachelor’s degree with 9 or more years of experience in Pigment or Nanomaterial Dispersions, and or applications work in Coatings, Inks, or other niche liquid materials conductivity
  • Knowledge of pigments and polymers and their application in areas such as coating, inks, etc.
  • Knowledge of material processing and testing in liquid system
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to conceive, plan, execute and interpret experiments independently
  • Ability to innovate & develop new techniques and theories
  • Ability to evaluate projects throughout development life cycle and accelerate or kill as needed
  • Ability to collaborate and work across geographies and functional divisions
  • Stage Gate experience, DFSS, or a Six Sigma Green Belt
