Sr. Flavor Chemist

The purpose of the Sr. Flavor Chemist is to support the business with strong flavor development knowledge, expertise in meat/savory categories.  Will bring creativity and understanding of flavor matrix, ingredients and food processing interaction to be able to work on customer’s projects.

*Supports the Sales team and Sales activities by providing technical support on site, at shows, product demonstrations, events, customer visits, technical presentations, expos or as needed

*Supports the development and commercial delivery of new / novel technologies, current flavors and portfolios

*Interacts with customers to identify opportunities to expand their core technologies (processes, ingredients, substrates)

*Supports customer-sales process by working on customer projects as needed and established

*Works independently and in collaboration with cross functional teams involved to develop, modify, duplicate and/or implement new / novel technologies, process or raw materials, with project completion within expected timelines

*Works on flavor development projects with short and long term scopes

*Participates in technician’s direction and training

*Project management, focus and execution

*Manages multiple priorities and timelines and uses strong technical and problem solving skills to approach complex projects

*Applies knowledge and skill sets in the areas of flavor development, sensory evaluation, marketing support, research studies and technical support to cross functional teams as needed

*Keeps up to date on necessary technical skills and knowledge

*Supports the process of identification, assessment and development of new / novel technologies and process improvements.  This can be achieved via new raw materials, unique use of materials, technology transfer from another industry

*May be required to travel up to 20%

Requirements

*Bachelor degree minimum, Master degree in Sciences or Engineering ideal (Packaging, Mechanical, Chemicals or related engineering science)

*3-8+ years of experience in a packaging engineering field (preferably in the food or beverage industry)

*Experience in thermoforming, injection molding and extrusion blow molding

*Experience with polyolefins (PE, PP, HDPE, PS), their properties and use as food containers

*Knowledge in sachets, pouches and related flexible packaging

*Experience in barriers properties of packaging materials

*Experience in the use of statistical tools for problem solving

*Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software, Microsoft Project, CAPE or TOPS, and AutoCAD

*Demonstrated leadership in cross functional teams involving marketing, sales, purchasing and manufacturing in the development of new products

*Excellent project management skills

*Excellent verbal and written communication skills

*Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in a fast paced environment

*Excellent business skills and understand the levels of R&D in brand P&Ls

*Self-starter, autonomous and demonstrated ability to bring new unsolicited ideas and solutions to the table

*Ability to travel approximately 25%
