Sr. Formulations Scientist

Our client is seeking a US Citizen PhD Formulations Scientist to join their composites materials group.  As a Sr. Formulations Scientist you will be hands on in the development of resin systems to support global applications in the aerospace and defense markets.  This requires U.S. Citizenship.  Thermoset Epoxy formulation experience is a plus.  The right individual will design experiments, conduct benchtop formulations, characterize and interpret results, and help in the scale up of finished products.  Our relationship with the customer allows the opportunity for direct interaction with the hiring manager and feedback on candidates.  No lengthy portal submittal or AI interpretation of your resume.  Call us today or submit your resume for a direct review by our recruiters. 

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Scope of the position is to develop high performance material solutions for advanced composite applications. In this role the successful candidate will be responsible for identifying characterizing and creating new composite systems such as those common to prepreg, RTM, resin infusion, pultrusion, filament winding etc. 

This position is also responsible for technical efforts and developments in line with the business strategy. The individual is expected to play a key role in creating competitive advantages through technical expertise and innovation. The individual would be expected to directly interact with internal and external key players in the business to successfully drive key programs.

As a Sr. Formulations Scientist, you will bring the following:

  • Develop new and modify existing thermoset resins systems in order to improve their performance/cost characteristics.
  • Hands on experience and fluency with various rheology and thermal analysis instruments specific to thermoset chemistry
  • Hands on experience in fabrication and mechanical testing of high-performance matrix and composite systems
  • Candidate must have a good understanding of matrix and composite structure-property relationships.
  • Develop intellectual property such as patents, papers, presentation etc. to maintain the company as the technology leader in high performance composite materials
  • Support sales and distribution with expert recommendations for specific application and products
  • Participate in and complete company-required training programs
  • Participate in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum Master of Science, PHD of Science degree preferred, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Material science or equivalent discipline
  • Required: 3-5 years industrial research with demonstrated experience in thermoset chemistries especially formulating of epoxies, and other high temperature composite application
  • Understanding of composite processing such as RTM, Filament Winding, Prepregging and other methods
  • Strong Organic or Polymer chemistry knowledge in thermoset resin formulation, processing, properties and applications
  • Hands on experience and interpretation knowledge on analytical equipment's/ Testing equipment such as DSC, RDA, DMA, TGA, HPLC, IR, Instron, ASTM, SACMA test methods, etc.
  • Specific formulation knowledge of Epoxies, bismaleimides & and other high performance resin chemistries for Aerospace and industrial composite application such as prepregging, RTM, infusion etc.
  • Good Knowledge in structural property relationship
  • Strong interpersonal Skills and type other specific skills requirement Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must have a good level of proficiency with Internet, Email, and Microsoft programs
  • Handling of toxic or caustic chemicals (with proper protective equipment) may occur between 25% and 50% of the time
  • Moderate noise levels are typical for this job
  • Physical demands such as standing, or walking may occur less than 50% of the time.
  • Lifting requirements of up to 50 lbs. may occur less than 25% of the time
  • 25 percent travel is required
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
