Sr. Manager Product Development R&D – Bakery

In this role you will be a technical leader for innovation, and solutions in the bakery segment of their business.  Mostly sweet bakery projects, and some savory.

Keys to the role:

  • Recognized expert with regional and global customers in the Bakery segment
  • Broad formulation, ingredient development and food processing knowledge in Bakery
  • Proven success in formulation and application development
  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex, strategic projects meeting aggressive timeli8nes and within budget
  • Proven success in managing and mentoring direct reports and working with cross-functional teams and initiatives

What You Will Be Doing

  • Utilize your leadership / management style, and technical expertise to develop and execute technical plans. These can include experimental design, conducting research, collecting, and analyzing data, communicating project status internally and externally, generating reports, supporting plant trials and product launches
  • Function as Bakery subject matter expert on ingredient solutions for (mostly sweet) baked products, offer technical insights and support to internal and external customers
  • Assess emerging innovative technologies to strengthen and accelerate our strategic growth plans
  • Collaborate with customers in joint product / application development projects
  • Play a leading role in the launch and commercialization of new product solutions
  • Present technical solutions in a way that is easy for laymen to understand the value and impact – for both internal and external (e.g., customers, trade shows) audiences

Other Key Responsibilities

  • Identify market needs and new opportunities for our existing food portfolio
  • Drive development of new capabilities and tools to enable faster and robust customer solutions
  • Manage, coach, and develop team members
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures
  • Collaborate with Finance and other functions (e.g., Sales, Manufacturing, Business / Product Management) to build cost models to support successful new product launch

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Bakery Science, Food Science, or related scientific field
  • 10+ years of experience in Bakery R&D / New Product Development, Technical service and/or Plant Support – ideally both at the ingredient and commercial bakery level
  • Experience working with a broad range of ingredients (and suppliers), formulations, applications, technologies, and processes in Bakery Industry
  • Experience working with customers and in commercial bakeries (e.g., running trials)
  • Familiar with a broad range of equipment typically found in commercial bakeries
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
