Sr. Polymer Application Chemist

Mid -size, growing organization looking for a Sr. Polymer Application Chemist who has more than 3 years of experience working in adhesives.  If you enjoy interacting with customers and performing testing, this could be a great opportunity for you!  This company offers great benefits and you will be part of a growing business segment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform project work which may include any or all:
    • Application and bonding of substrates and adhesives
    • Set up and functional use of application equipment (i.e., melters, coaters, pumps, nozzles)
    • Problem solving related to product performance
    • Familiar with test requirements including environmental aging, flatwise tension test, peel and shear testing, cleavage, rolling ball tack
    • Familiar with use of Instron machine
  • Understanding basic product formulation and function of raw materials
  • Coordinate analytical lab testing in the event a product needs to be characterized or troubleshooting is needed
  • Always maintain organization and inventory of lab supplies and equipment
  • Create procedures for project work: preparation, safe handling and application of products, description of ASTM methods, forms for reporting results concisely
  • Up to 40% during the work week
  • Comfortable with supervisor input and goal-oriented work. The number of projects completed on-time, turnaround time of projects, and key account support are all factors
  • Organize and analyze data, present findings, and conclusion in written and verbal form
  • Provide technical support to assigned accounts, by making the best recommendations for products and process conditions, conducting field tests and appropriate lab tests
  • Use applications knowledge to guide new product development efforts
  • Recommend product and process modifications that improve conversion rates in the field
  • Use knowledge of and experience to ensure that’s best testing practices are maintained and oversee upkeep of lab and equipment
  • Source, purchase and start-up any new lab equipment necessary to support the business
  • Host customer training and open houses at the site
  • Prepare technical presentations on capabilities and technologies as needed
  • Support creation and maintenance of TDS sheets
  • Routinely update call notes, project updates, and reports in Salesforce.com

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

  • Someone who can talk with customers about how the adhesives bonded, formulated, how they are used, and applied
  • Someone who is comfortable working in the lab to run application testing such as physical testing, roll coasting adhesives, performance testing on projects, and some analytical testing
  • BS in science is preferred but is not required
  • 3-5 years of experience if you have a degree
  • No degree would require 10 years of experience
  • Urethane experience is key preferred for adhesives
    • Application lab experience is even better
  • Could be out of CASE
  • Someone willing to travel to customers with overnight travel being up to 40% all over US and Canada
  • Experience writing safety procedures for the lab
  • Expertise on ASTM test procedures on what equipment is needed
  • Experience working with sourcing team to purchase items for lab
