Sr. Polymer Development Engineer
Growing manufacturer is seeking an experienced polymer development specialist. Work will be lab-based as well as hands-on optimizing manufacturing processes. Company has doubled in size in the last year and a half and they have purchased a new facility to serve the growing wind energy market. Company recognizes individual accomplishments and focuses on serving customers.
Perform all duties in support of Polyurethane, Epoxy, Polyester, PTFE, and injection molding processing. Formulation research and development, production batch blending, process specification, process optimization, quality assurance, and physical property testing. Supports the uptime and efficiencies of equipment and improves processes.
- Create a work environment where we closely follow all safety and environmental policies and procedures in accordance with both Company procedures and all other relevant regulatory agencies
- Design new materials and processes to manufacture per customer requirements
- Manage communication with all suppliers to design new compounds and maintain expert knowledge on same
- Determine all quality specifications for all new materials
- Design and recommend improvements to all materials to increase efficiency of all polymer processes
- Conduct research that tests and analyzes the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components, and systems
- Oversee production processes to ensure desired product characteristics are achieved
- Collaborate with others to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information
- Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair to ensure that machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications
- Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions
- Work closely with test lab to develop efficient testing methods to evaluate product characteristics
- Monitor customer issues and assist to identify and resolve issues effectively
- Provide training to production personnel and other departments
- Support ISO 9000 initiatives and other company initiatives
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports

Job Requirements
Technical Qualifications:
- BS, MS, or PhD in Organic Chemistry, Polymer Science, or Polymer Engineering
- Rigorous polymer process development, with demonstrated success from customer problem to marketed solution
- Strong understanding of the processing technology of Polyurethane, Epoxy, Polyester Resins, and injection molding
- Knowledge of PTFE resins also a plus
- 5+ years minimum of hands-on industrial experience in a closely related field
- Practitioner of statistics and DOE
- Good communication skills
