Sr. QA Technologist – Sanitation Emphasis

Responsibilities of the Sr. QA Technologist will include:

Monitor shift safety compliance:

  • Stop unsafe activities or behaviors during the shift, and communicate / document issues (including near misses) as required per company safety policies
  • Responsible for ensuring that all needed safety training has been performed in a timely manner for personnel working on the shift (contractors, vendors, company employees)
  • Look at current assigned jobs and task to ensure they do not compromise employee / contractor safety (Examples: ergonomics, correct tools / equipment for task, tools maintained in a way not to compromise employee safety, potential enclosed space, correct level of PPE for specific assigned activities, lock out / tag out issues, working on ladders, elevated platforms, or aerial lifts)
  • Assist as necessary with plant security needs, and communicate / document issues
  • Work with 3rd party contract cleaning company
  • Ensure daily SSOP compliance
  • Coordinate MSS execution and compliance
  • Foster a relationship / communication process that is focused on continuous improvement, and true partnering
  • Long term / short term goal setting
  • Work with vendors to drive process improvements, and ensure Company quality expectations are being consistently met, and improved upon
  • Chemical vendors
  • Equipment manufacturers

Process troubleshooter:

  • Investigate / implement corrective actions for PEM / spoilage issues
  • Process cleaning issues / improvements
  • Improve cleaning / sanitizing processes to reduce damage to equipment and environmental surfaces
  • Work toward continuously improving the process by reducing needed resources (water, steam, wastewater, chemicals, labor) whenever possible

Sanitary design leadership:

  • Work with all needed plant / corporate personnel (engineering, maintenance, and leadership) and equipment suppliers to perform sanitary design assessments for new equipment, or when equipment modifications are needed
  • Work with all needed plant / corporate personnel (engineering, maintenance, and leadership) and suppliers to perform sanitary design assessments for changes to plant infrastructure

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry preferred
  • Maintain knowledge of local pesticide applicator regulations
  • Extensive experience in; CIP Sanitation, Pest Control, Quality Systems, Sanitation Practices and their application within food production facilities (Both wet and dry RTU)
  • Evaluate, develop, standardize and implement SSOP’s and audit Master Sanitation Schedules (including Allergen Programs) and Pest Control Programs
  • Knowledge and general acumen in appropriate allergen, chemical cleaning, and pest control techniques, cleaning validation and verification, sanitary design is required
  • Knowledge and general acumen of applicable regulatory agency regulations and objectives (USDA, FDA)
  • Able to partner with Production and Supply Chain to effectively manage Sanitation (including Allergen) and Pest Control, Expectations and Requirements; including Establishment of Sanitation KPI’s, and resolution of audit action plans
  • Strong partnering and relationship development with external technical organizations and associations
  • Knowledgeable in industry sanitation management and Food Safety/Quality audit practices; Skilled in adapting to achieve business best practices
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write and maintain SSOP’s, Master Sanitation Schedule, Work Instructions, Sanitation Audit Programs / Metrics Develop Training for Plant personnel (train the trainers): Sanitation Inspection, SSOP’s and Sanitation Metrics
  • Develop efficacy programs for plant sanitation practices
  • Coordinate 3rd Party Sanitation Audits; Familiar with requirements / expectations
  • Familiarity with MSDS, PPE, Chemical and Safety programs and requirements
