Sr. Quality Manager x 2

Position Summary:

Manage all aspects of quality assurance and food safety for the plant.

Essential Responsibilities and Expectations:

Customer Focus

  • Provide primary customer interface and support for significant QA related issues and initiatives
  • Provide guidance and leadership in situations where deviations have occured or a potential risk has been identified to food safety or food quality
  • Assist Quality Control Manager, Sanitation Supervisor and Plant Manager in investigation of root cause and implement corrective actions in conjunction with manufacturing personnel for customer complaints and internal product holds
  • Provide technical support to suppliers and customers with issues, questions regarding food regulatory, policies or industry standards for the food category
  • Support, and in some instances complete, customer questionnaires
  • Coordinate and manage the supplier audit process to monitor the quality system and compliance with regulatory requirements of any co-manufacturers and identified suppliers
  • Provide direct technical support to production, R&D, Sales and customers as needed
  • Lead / facilitate problem solving and investigation of issues; ensure effective and timely communication of status to all involved parties and validate any corrective actions
  • Ensure all product and quality control records are maintained to comply with regulatory requirements and ease of addressing any immediate recall and traceability
  • Oversee BRC and third-party audits; review questionnaire and survey responses to ensure accuracy
  • Conduct internal audits and address non-conformities to ensure proper applications of internal and regulatory policies and procedures
  • Monitor vendor performance and establish criteria for rating critical vendors
  • Establish critical control points and calibration systems for equipment and processes
  • Provide direct technical support to production, R&D, Sales and customers as needed

Facility Focus

  • Manage and lead the Site Supervisor, Sanitation and Quality Technicians
  • Lead integration of the current quality assurance and food safety processes into one integrated process. This includes HACCP system, regulatory audits, quality systems, standard operating procedures, incoming ingredient inspections, food safety audits
  • Assure that production is in in full compliance with all relevant FDA and regulatory guidelines established for food manufacturing including GMP’s, GSMA, and company policies
  • Coordinate with Quality Control and operations to develop CI initiatives to reduce in-process scrap, customer complaints and product returns
  • Monitor vendor performance and establish criteria for rating critical vendors
  • Conduct internal audits and address non-conformities to ensure proper application of internal and regulatory policies and procedures
  • Work across functions and sites to support formulation / process optimization initiatives
  • Ensure that Supervisor and Quality professionals are appropriately trained and fully understand the quality programs and records retained
  • Support in establishing Corporate SOP’s to support quality programs including sampling plans
  • Participate in industry associations, remain abreast of industry developments, build relationships with industry, share technical expertise as a presenter, participant in panels and committees

Requirements:

  • BS/MS Science, Food Science, Engineering, Chemistry or related field
  • Five years of experience in food manufacturing with at least three years’ management at the plant HACCP, GFSI audit (BRC), and Certified by FDA for FSPCA
  • Proficient in computer software – Microsoft Office, inventory management, and LIMS
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food safety systems and requirements for HACCP, allergens, sanitation, GMPs, FSMA, microbiology, and recall with a proven track record of implementation and enforcement of said programs
  • Knowledgeable of USDA, FDA and other governing body regulatory guidelines related to food
  • Experienced in food safety auditing (ASQ certification in auditing or management is a plus) and the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), FSMA, and statistics
  • Specific knowledge to the BRC is a plus
  • Demonstrated project management, analytical thinking, and decision-making skills are critical for the success of this position
