Sr. Scientist / Principal Scientist

Specialty chemical company is seeking an experienced PhD adhesive formulation scientist.  PhD required with 10+ years of broad experience in hands-on adhesive formulation with 2-3+ years in packaging adhesive development.  This is a highly visible role within the company’s innovation team and has excellent growth potential.  If you are a high-energy, self-driven individual with great communication skills, this could be an excellent opportunity for you!  Great benefits and relocation assistance available.  Must be US citizen or US green card holder.

Responsibilities:

• Actively participates in research departmental safety programs; ensures safe laboratory operations and utilizes all relevant safety processes
• Initiates and conducts research projects to develop new products and applications; projects can involve new formulations or developing capabilities for applications research
• Designs and sets up laboratory equipment, analyzes results, and recommends courses of action based on available chemical and engineering information
• Develops new applications in close collaboration with customers and aligned with business strategy
• Interprets and communicates test results to cross-functional teams globally
• Participates in Stage Gate projects as a team leader or team member
• Promotes laminating adhesives technology through presentations, publications and participation at trade shows and conferences
• Assists customers in troubleshooting issues when using company’s technology
• Develops networks within the company global technical communities to overcome issues, find solutions, and achieve objectives
• Provides monthly and quarterly reports on the status and impact of key projects; presents work internally and externally
• Follows scientific and patent literature related to the field and provide expert analysis
• Oversees the global intellectual property in laminating adhesive technologies and generates intellectual property when applicable
• Up to 20% travel may be required

Technical Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience developing laminating adhesives for food packaging
• Solid understanding in polymer physics and polymer chemistry; expertise in formulating a wide range of high-performance materials: acrylate, urethane, epoxy, silicone, rubbers, or plastics. UV/EB, Hotmelt…
• Experience in packaging / process optimization in consumer packaging goods
• Proven track record in commercializing new products
• A creative and resourceful problem-solve, balancing commercialization speed and scientific rigor in a dynamic environment
