Technical Director

The Technical Director will have the following responsibilities:

  • Manage all technical activities including product development, product improvements, formulation management, regulatory and material selections
  • Lead technical scale-up activities to ensure successful commercialization of new technologies for existing and new customers within the Wood Coating business. Manage technical aspects of scale-up of new products within the Contract Manufacturing business within customer specifications
  • Responsible for the quality program across the company by ensuring product quality and service meets or exceeds customer expectations. Including overall leadership of the laboratory including Safety, 6S, Quality Control and Quality Assurance
  • Provide leadership and participation with continuous improvement initiatives in all site programs including Safety, Operations, Supply Chain, and Quality
  • Ensures ISO system documentation of processes are established, implemented and maintained as it relates to laboratory, quality and technical functions
  • Interact with Sales and Customers on product selection and product enhancements. Provide technical support to operations group as needed
  • Manage a team of Plant Support Chemists and Quality Control Technicians (5 people total)
  • Manage company regulatory compliance aspects of current and future products
  • Participate on Company Leadership team and guide future strategy plans specific to future technologies and product lines

Requirements:

  • BS Chemistry or related science degree
  • 10+ years of experience in coatings / chemical manufacturing industry
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience
  • Experience in formulation and commercialization of new technologies
  • Self-starter with proven ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Entrepreneurial, can-do, problem solver and proactive and innovative mind set
  • Enthusiasm for learning, leading and growing technology that wins new customers
  • Proven experience in effective quality control practices
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
