Technical Lab Manager

The Technical Lab Manager will have the following responsibilities:

  • Oversee bench level experiments and projects by establishing parameters on individual assignments to the scientific staff
  • Develop performance objectives for the team and stretch their current capabilities by mentoring a team of professional food scientists
  • Provide guidance in the distribution of workload and the potential re-appropriation of lab areas to ensure efficiency and success
  • Support the development of new ingredients and technologies
  • Represent the site’s needs for basic research, applications formulations, process engineering, and sensory science
  • Influence ideation discussion to streamline the R&D process and use new technologies
  • Lead project teams, including longer-term endeavors
  • Proactive product development of food and beverage systems to demonstrate the efficacy of our products
  • Perform lab analysis, set up and operate lab equipment and welcome hands-on bench work
  • Research and develop methods, write SOP’s, and train the staff for routine performance
  • Participate in industry technical discussions to keep informed on upcoming technologies
  • Manage daily -lab (i.e. troubleshoot equipment, approve lab supplies, etc.) and employees
  • Act as a technical resource for all departments on-site
  • Provide technical leadership for troubleshooting the scale-up or production of novel natural ingredients
  • Lead multiple projects in terms of planning, analysis and communication

Requirements:

  • BS, MS, PhD in Food Science, or similar disciplines
  • Five to seven years industry research experience and practical application of scientific methods
  • Master’s Degree in Food Science of similarly related technical field preferred. Bachelor’s degree required
  • Ability to quantitatively review technical procedures and regulations. Capable of writing detailed reports
  • Ability to effectively present information to groups and respond to questions from other managers
  • Understanding of usage rates, ingredient interactions, preservatives, acidulants, stabilizers, etc.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and able to manage multiple complex projects concurrently
  • Shows a high degree of proactive thinking and great organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills with a focus on building collaborative relationships
  • Great communicator, and likes to lead and work in a team environment
  • Likes to be an advocate of the company and represent with pride at trade shows, with customers and community
  • Enthusiasm to drive research and results in the company
