Technical Service Group Leader

This is a role where collaboration and creativity are key: you and your team will work closely with many cross-functional teams across our organization, including other chemists and engineers, technical service associates, and sales associates to ensure the quality we stand for is evident in everything we do.  It’s also a role where you will have continuous opportunities to grow and develop in a technical capacity as you learn different coating technologies and understand different customer needs.  We’ll look to you for creative applications of both our products and processes and provide you the freedom and support you need to take those ideas forward.  If you have a passion for innovation, this role was made for you.

  • Supporting the modification / maintenance of existing product lines and new product development across all segments
  • Participating in product robustness activities for current and new coating technologies to understand operating window to improve chance to launch success and sustain running at customer facilities
  • Developing new test methods that will have an impact in acceleration of coating results
  • Simulating customer line conditions to increase the rate of products launch
  • Helping to identify and address technical challenges in coatings formulations, performance characteristics, testing methodologies, and application conditions across our product lines
  • Providing support to technical sales representative in resolving technical application of coatings and troubleshooting customer complaints
  • Developing the team, help formulate their respective Career Plans and Aligned Business goals for your direct reports
  • Provide summary reports on projects and problem-solving activities as needed including communications to both internal and external customers

Requirements:

  • BS Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field with a minimum of 5 years’ experience required; Advanced degree preferred
  • Must have experience interacting directly with customers and helping solve their problems
  • Prior management / supervisory experience preferred
  • Project management experience
  • Development / formulation / service experience in any of the following areas; coatings, adhesives, sealants, additives, polymers, resins, etc.
  • Strong leadership skills – this person will manage 5-6 chemists and technicians
  • Hands-on manager! This person will need to do lab work along with the chemists and technicians
  • Excellent communication skills – this person will interact directly with customers, sales, manufacturing, and development teams
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time
