Technical Service Lead – Medical Device Materials

Mid-sized, growing company looking for an experienced chemist or material scientist to fill their Technical Service Team Lead position.  Great opportunity for someone with a background in development of materials for medical device and healthcare applications.  Candidates should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Company offers excellent benefits with flexible hours, great opportunities for growth!

The incumbent of this position must be knowledgeable of the uses, chemistry and processing of elastomers with experience in customer support and project management.  Focus application areas within healthcare including long-term implantable devices, drug delivery systems, tubing, adhesives, ophthalmic and wound care.  The range of elastomers requires an understanding of different cure systems, rheological characterization methods and compounding methods.  Direct experience formulating, applying and testing silicone elastomers, gels and foams is preferred.  The candidate will be responsible for working within the business and Research & Technology teams to prioritize general support requests and assign resources aligned to market priorities and opportunities.  Project leadership responsibilities will include initiating, planning, implementing, management and executing of application development and low complexity product development projects.  The candidate will be expected to interact with all levels of personnel within the organization with a focus on open communication with the Commercial and Business Development teams to deliver growth opportunities and implement strategy.  Direct customer interaction and travel (primarily domestic) are required.

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Polymers or Material Science required. Related chemical experience with a focus on silicone technology is preferred
  • At least 5 years of prior work experience working with elastomers, thermoplastics or rubber in the medical device / healthcare markets
  • Must be able to run tests, collect data and communicate research results
  • Fabricating techniques such as molding, extrusion and 3D printing experience desirable
