Technical Services Principal Scientist

The Technical Services Principal Scientist will provide product support, assist in new formulations / product & innovation development, troubleshooting, customer experience enhancement, competitive insight, and overall customer relationship management at the plant level.  The role will drive customer intimacy by supporting corporate initiatives, developing relationships outside corporate procurement, and furthering the Value Proposition of the company with local sourcing, traceability and superior safety & SQF ratings.  Travel will be required 35% of the time throughout North America.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive business strategy and work closely with key internal stakeholders (food safety, operations, plant management, R&D), to ensure alignment
  • Help develop and expand current product offering into high value segments and product mix
  • Develop and execute strategies and tactics to ensure the long-term customer experience adds value to the company and most importantly our key customer segment
  • Review and enhance current and future product positioning and value proposition
  • Attend all necessary trade association meetings aimed at strengthening customer relationships
  • Portfolio Management – serve as the “quarterback” for a portfolio of products and coordinate product activities with operations, regulatory, finance, customer service, research and development, and 3rd party relations to ensure that quality products are delivered according to forecasted and budgeted goals
  • Provide competitive analysis and strategies / marketing programs to maximize returns and understand market dynamics
  • Coordinate all product activities through New Product Development, New Product Introduction / Launch plans and Supply and Operations Planning (S&OP) process leadership
  • Coordinate development of sales support materials, communication tactics, etc.
  • Capture and communicate / respond to competitive market intelligence
  • Seeks always to meet current and foreseeable upcoming market needs in ways that provides differentiation and thereby competitive advantages or is there a better way philosophy

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, or related (advanced degree preferred)
  • Five years’ experience in food ingredients
