Job Description
Technical Support Chemist – MWF
The Metalworking Technical Support Chemist provides technical support for the metalworking product line and serves as a key technical resource for Sales, Marketing, Product Development, Production, and Customer Service. This person has a primary responsibility to perform routine and non-routine laboratory field sample analyses and provide technical support to customers and field sales engineers. In addition, the Metalworking Technical Support Chemist may be involved in providing troubleshooting and Quality Control services for Production. The introduction of new analytical technologies may be required from time to time. He/she is responsible for providing a safe and clean work environment and for maintaining accurate and timely records. All activities are performed in the spirit of teamwork and cooperation practiced at the company.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Technical Support
- Ability to develop customized test protocols as needed to solve unique customer issues
- Knowledge of the operating principles of relevant analytical instrumentation, as well as capabilities and limitation
- Issue routine and non-routine reports as needed (emphasis on non-routine), including but not limited to reports based on analytical summaries
- Provide accurate explanations and recommendations based on the data obtained
- Provide information regarding new test methodologies, including wet, tribological, and analytical
- Modify existing test methods when founds to be inadequate
- Provide assistance to Product Development group as needed
- Maintain plant retained samples for technical service projects and sample shipments
- Become trained in applicable D.O.T. hazardous material shipping regulations and follow internal export control protocols
Customer Support
- Respond to requests for technical information in a timely manner
- Ability to properly handle end-user and distributor requests for information
- Develop and maintain positive rapport with Field Sales Engineers and customers
- Coordinate product sample requests
- Effectively communicate with customers, customer service, vendors, vendor technical support, etc.
- Interface with vendors, as needed
- Provide prompt and effective assistance when required by unplanned events

Job Requirements
Technical Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and a minimum 3-5 years’ experience in the chemical industry
- Ability to develop knowledge of metalworking fluids of various types – soluble oil, semi-synthetic, synthetic
- Ability to develop knowledge of metalworking processes – cutting, grinding, forming, rust preventing, cleaning
- Ability to develop expertise with all routine analytical procedures used in the analyses of metalworking field technical service samples
- Detail oriented
- Time management
