Thermoplastic Compounding Engineer

Job Scope:

  • Principal scale-up engineer responsible for supporting company thermoplastic compounding business
  • Responsible for progressing new thermoplastic formulations from development scale to manufacturing scale
  • Work with formulation specialists to define process specifications and prove manufacturing capability for thermoplastic formulations
  • Work with formulation and analytical specialists to define and implement product testing protocols for thermoplastic formulations
  • Work with Technology, Product Management, and Manufacturing to create and execute asset strategy
  • Support Manufacturing in process improvement, debottlenecking, and yield gain efforts
  • Develop project plans and lead projects that support above duties
  • Communicate results and recommendations to team and management; document results in reports
  • Apply statistical tools effectively (Six Sigma, capability analysis, design of experiments)

  • Bachelor of Science in Polymer Science or Engineering, Materials Science or related is required; PhD is preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience in thermoplastic polymer product development or manufacturing/support is required
  • Experience in thermoplastic compounding processes and equipment is required
  • Experience with thermoplastic polymer blends and additives is required
  • Familiarity with polyester thermoplastics is preferred
  • Strong project management skills are required
  • Excellent judgment and relational abilities
  • Able to collaborate with peers of various technical backgrounds and fields of expertise to enable effective product development
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • High level of motivation, initiative and sense of urgency
  • Flexible to provide first-hand presence and effective support in multiple labs and facilities
  • Complete fluency in English, including good verbal and written technical communications
